i Did a Bowl

There truly is no job i’m too good for. Today at work i cleaned a toilet left soiled by an anonymous donor.

This is me getting stronger.

About Al K Hall

Like a battered drinker or a punch drunk boxer, i am here for another round. For those of you who don’t know me, i’m a semi-professional writer on the rocks and a non-practicing alcoholic (if after 30 years of practicing, you still can't do something well, it's best to just give it up). For those of you who do know me, thanks for stopping by anyway and where’s the ten bucks you owe me? Welcome to my Bar None. A hole in the wall where we can hang out and trade the kind of stories you swap only when you’ve had one too many and either can’t find your way home or are afraid to. Hell, it’s cheaper than therapy and plus the pictures are prettier. Here we’ll crack open bottles and jokes and ‘last call’ are the only dirty words you’ll never hear. Pull up a stool and make yourselves at home.

  1. That’s some strong shit there Al.

  2. you two.. Funny…

I love the title Al. Haven’t thought of ‘doing a bowl’ in a long time…

Memories light the corner of my mind
(Well, sorta, don’t really remember much from my doing a bowl days.)

Which reminds me, I live with my two men: My bowl needs a good old wipe down….

    • Hi Jen!

Yeah, you know us writers, always trying to find an attention-grabbing title.

Actually, i was never ever a big fan of bowls or pipes or that type of cigarette. It always interfered with my drinking and i didn’t want anything or anyone doing that.

Wipe down the bowl and make yourself a better person. (Or teach the men how to do it; they need a chance to become stronger too! Don’t you go hogging all the strength! lol)

      Keep coming back,

      Al K Hall

    • I used to think it was a rather astute observation that most people who seem to like alcohol much more than they should (can’t bring myself to label anyone) do not like pot. But now it’s pretty obvious. If they liked pot more than alcohol they would not be of the variety who overindulges in alcohol to the detriment of their well being. They’d be stoners.

However, I do have a few ex-drinking buddies who would use it from time to time. And not because it interfered with their drinking. Pot is an anti-nauseant and they found they could use it to drink more vodka without throwing up. Even in the darkest depths of my obsession with alcohol, I thought that was crossing the line. i hate the stuff. Good thing too because Venice has more “doctors” to prescribe the stuff than all the other specialists at Cedar Sinai and I’d probably be too baked to comment here.

      • Hi ITSB!

There were two times when i mixed and felt so nauseous i had to sit with my head between my legs and not move for literally hours. Once was at a party in the woods and i could here a guy trying to pick up on my girlfriend who was sitting with me but i was too out of it to be able to do anything (and she shot him down). The other was in Amsterdam. If it didn’t do that to me, it made me want to fall asleep whereas the booze fired me up and kept me partying. God i’m glad i’m finished with all that shit!

        Keep coming back,

        Al K Hall

  3. Love the title and comments so far, but OMG — the thing that is getting me here? I AM SO PROUD OF YOU. Seriously, this is, like, huge stuff, huge progress. “Before,” I don’t think it even would have crossed your mind to just clean it up. A lot of other things probably would have crossed your mind, probably something along the lines of “What a-hole messed this up?!” but cleaning it up would not have been one of them, I don’t think. It shows how much you have changed and have become stronger and I am *really* impressed. You’re “walking the talk” and I am a huge believer in the idea that actions are way louder than words. THIS is true progress!

P.S. Sorry I have not been commenting much of late. You know why, lol. But I wanted to acknowledge here I do read each of these posts since I subscribe. And I love them. Keep working it, Al.

    • My Lady Love!

LOL, you crack me up. i’m glad you’re glad, and had no idea you’d be so impressed. Maybe it’s because i don’t do it at home, huh? But yes, i am changing, or at least working on it. And i’m glad you’re along for the ride.

      Keep coming back!

      Al K Hall
