Broken Toys
Mrs Demeanor and i went to a concert the other night to see Seether open for a band called 3 Doors Down. Now, here in Yeaman, both of these bands are unknown and only one of them is good. To give you an idea of just how messed up the world is, Seether was the warm up act and 3 Doors Down was the headliner which is like saying God opened up for Rebecca Black but there you go.
i don’t know if you know 3 Doors Down or not, but if you don’t, the best way to describe them is “cute metal”. “Sheet” metal. 3 Doors Down is the Avril Lavigne of metal, is what i’m saying.
Seether played one incredible hour of post grunge alternative hard rock metal driven by Shaun Morgan, a struggling addict and alcoholic who lost his brother to suicide.
Then, after a break, there was 1 hour and ½ of a Christian pop band performing finger pumping ballads that penetrated the virgin heart of every teen in the audience.
Don’t get me wrong, i understood the passion of those kids feeling each petty word they heard and i can’t fault them for it. On the contrary, it was fun watching the youth of the day get into the songs like i did Cinderella or Ronnie James Dio back in my “hey” days. Still, i felt i was trapped in a toybox at Ken and Barbie’s concert and even if i was welcome, i knew i didn’t belong.
My place was deep inside the Seether songs, with those battered and scarred survivors who have felt the full weight of the world both when it rolled over us and when we kicked its astronomy into a new orbit.
It was probably wrong of me to feel proud, but i knew i belonged under the bed, with the other broken toys.

Three Doors Down suck! I saw them, get this, as the opening act for The Goo Goo Dolls … and the Goo Goo Dolls pretty much suck, but the lead singer is so cute, i feel compelled to go to the concerts and pretend like he’s looking at me 🙂 Now there’s a broken toy for ya.
Yes, 3DD Sucks. I like Seether.
Christian pop: Good for the Yeamen virgin mini brothers and sisters. Maybe they can hang out with Barney and the good toys. I’ll stick with what i know: Under the covers, sleeping.
Way to “get out there” though with the teeny-boppers. You DO belong … but maybe not with 3DD. 🙂
The image in this post reminded me of that kid from the first Toy Story, the one who mashed up the toys into those freakazoid ones. Remember that part of the movie? Yeah, it’s a little dark & twisted, lol, but I get it. I get the broken toy thing a lot. A lot a lot. For different reasons, maybe. But I get it.

No comments about 3DD. Not really worth it to comment about them (okay, nevermind, I have to write something, but just this: they tried really hard. I wanted to like them, but couldn’t. They bored me to death. Well, there was that one hit song of theirs which reminded me of living in Podunk, Colorado. That was not necessarily a good thing, just not boring! LOL)
And guess what. Yesterday I was looking at the same website for the place we went to see Seether in Yeaman. Guess who is playing March 12? KORN. I shit you not. Sold out. Fuck. And I was JUST saying as we were going home that I would really love to see KORN play in Yeaman! Fuckety fuck.
I’m kinda bummed (a lot bummed, actually. I would love to go). Now what would have been REALLY cool was to have Seether and KORN play the same night!!!! That would have given me a heart attack!
Maybe both Seether & KORN will come back soon. Seether as the main show where they play more than six songs (or whatever. Maybe it was more like 8 or 10, but it seemed like only six or so). *sigh*
On the grateful side of things, I am just really happy that I got on the Seether site that day last November and that I saw the upcoming concert date. I’m grateful that we bought tickets, and I am grateful to have even seen them at all here in Yeaman. I’m grateful they play such kickass music.

Went over to the Wiki article on Shaun & read this: “Prior to forming their band, Saron Gas, Shaun was a member of a tribute band, tributing songs of bands such as Korn and Metallica.”
HEHEHEHEHEHEH!!! Awesome. I love that Shaun kid (god, he’s 10 whole years younger than me, I had no idea. I thought he was a little older than that. He was just a pipsqueak when they hit the US charts, then! Only 23! Crazy). Anyway, he is definitely of a musical chain of bands that are ones I love, for sure. Now I REALLY want to see KORN and Seether play together!! Would that not be awesome?!?!
Now I wonder how in the hell Seether wound up touring with 3DD anyway. WHATTUP with that? Inquiring minds now want to know….
And isn’t this just like the good old days when you would post about music in your blogs (way back when) and I would go all apeshit in the comments? I love this. 😀 Reminds me of the whole Flyleaf conversation that was going on about 5 years ago, lol.
Hi! Love Seether only a little less than 3 days grace. Drives me nuts when people confuse 3DG with 3DD bc they really are nothing alike except for starting their names with the same first word and same letter of their second. Probably would have walked out after seether, but that’s just me. The lyrics speak volumes to what they’ve experienced not to mention they plain rock. Other faves are korn, slipknot and.godsmack. if I’m still around at 80, I will still be listening to them. Have always considered myself a misfit toy, so as always, the post.hits home. It was so awesome that Seether came to your town. See ya!

Working on it, I think I may have been one of those people when I asked Al to buy the tickets for us. I sort of assumed (silly me) that Seether would actually be playing with someone cool, and I know that I liked songs with a band that had “3” in it. My bad. So we stuck around, with me not really remembering that 3DD was the ghey band with 3 in it. LOL.
Thank you for reminding me that it is really 3 Days Grace that is the good one. Sorry Al, I am not trying to take over your comments, honest. I just am really having a lot of fun with your post and had a lot of fun at the Seether part of the concert, and it is nice to interact with your friends here. 🙂
Lol. I’m sorry. 3dg does have a pop.sound about them. I like more the songs that aren’t played on the radio and many of the lyrics hit home. Seether sustains me on my drives to and.from Michigan. I’ve worn out the cd and had to buy another. I was really surprised they did a cover of careless whispers. Yah I’m a dork. Loved punk in.my single digits…my parents wanted to call in a priest more than once I’m.sure. still reeling.about the loss of Paul from slipknot..another life lost. They are number 3 on my list….takes me a while to let go.
I need to get out more.

We saw TS3 in the theater when it came out (in 3D!!). Something in me wants to say I made Al go, lol — I don’t think he would have gone to see it on his own, although he may have taken his youngest to see it (even though she was, what, 13 or 14 when it came out…) if I had not wanted to go. Anyway, I LOVED it. Such a good one! I’ve not seen it again — have not babysat any kids who have had that on DVD yet, lol. I have, however, seen the first one countless numbers of times (to infinity and beyond, I swear! ;D) and also in Yeamani language, hahaha! It’s fun to see it in Yeamani, too. 😉 (I think I am up to four times in Yeamani, now.) I saw all of the other ones — the second movie was one of the very first movies my oldest son ever saw in a theater (the fist was “Tarzan”), and I just had to go to see how it all turned out in the final one. Now I want to watch that third one again. I know I cried at the end of it, it was that good.
