My daughter and i were on our backs, adrift in a boat in the middle of a lake watching shooting stars. She counted more than me and that made me feel the kind of good only a father can feel. Then she said,
Soon I’ll run out of things to wish for!
Reminding me i’d forgotten to wish on the stars i’d already watched fall! What a waste of falling stars!
So i cranked up my diligence on star watching (“I’m not superstitious, but I’m a little stitious,” The Office) and prioritized my wishes. i have a crush on a girl, should i wish for that to come true? Wait, what about my kids. My daughter’s going through a tricky period but i can’t wish on her before my son so can i wish for both of them at once? Can i just wish for everything in life to work out best for everyone?
Then it hit me. i only need one wish.
i wish that my sobriety lasts.
If that one comes true, then all the rest will come true, too.
i met with my sponsor yesterday and, after discussing steps 11 & 12 a little, he informed me i have officially completed the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous.
It was a special moment. He told me how much he enjoyed working with a sponsee who gave himself so completely to the program and i told him how much i enjoyed working with a sponsor who channeled my Higher Power.
We’ll still meet to go over maintenance details, but from now on, you’ll read the save kind of crap here, but written by a guy who has completed the 12 Steps. The first time.
[btw, i’m on vacation for the next few weeks, so apologies fit not getting back to you on comments or checking out your blogs (i have Internet access only one hour a day – and only on my phone!]
